POKERIO

Texas Hold'em rules.

Each player gets two private cards and shares five community cards. Make the best five-card hand, or get everyone else to fold. These are the No-Limit rules Pokerio plays by.

Blinds and the button

A dealer button moves one seat clockwise each hand. The player to its left posts the small blind and the next player posts the big blind. These forced bets give everyone something to play for. With only two players, the button posts the small blind and acts first before the flop.

The four betting rounds

  1. Preflop. Everyone gets two hole cards. Betting starts with the player left of the big blind.
  2. The flop. Three community cards are dealt face up, then there's another round of betting.
  3. The turn. A fourth community card, then betting.
  4. The river. The fifth and last community card, then the final round of betting.

After the flop, betting starts with the first player still in the hand to the left of the button.

What you can do on your turn

A raise must be at least as big as the last bet or raise. An all-in for less doesn't count as a full raise, so it may not let players who've already acted raise again.

Showdown

If two or more players are left after the river, they show their cards. The best five-card hand from any mix of their two hole cards and the five community cards wins the pot. Equal hands split it. See the poker hand rankings for what beats what.

All-ins and side pots

You can't be forced out of a hand for not having enough chips. If you go all in for less than others, you can only win what you matched from each player. Any extra betting between the others goes into a side pot that you can't win.

Optional house rules on Pokerio

The host can add rules on top of standard Hold'em: a blind timer, such as doubling every 10 minutes, antes, rebuy limits, and a once-a-game new deck call that reshuffles the cards still to come.
